July 23 - 25 - Newfoundland - The Rock = The End!

We spent three glorious days in Newfoundland.  Two days were sunny and one was kind of cold and grey but we were travelling that day.  One of the locals said to us, "all the way from Ontario and you didn't bring your winter clothes!!"  I told him that my dad was born in Newfoundland and I should have known better.  LOL!!  We really wanted to spend some time in Gros Morne National Park and man, that was really worth the time there.  Walter wants to move to Shoel Brooke and live the rest of his life in total peace and quiet.  Time is really, really laid back here.  The people are fantastic and eveyone is "my love".  Even Gabriele could not believe that people would just come over, sit down where we were sitting and just start up a conversation.  We are very proud of ourselves going the whole distance and it has been an amazing experience with so much fun and laughter.  Fantastic way to celebrate 25 years with "my love"!!

Walter is going to create an album (with about 500 shots that we took) and we will post the link to that in our next posting.

The End!

July 22, The Cabot Trail

Okay, all the talk and constant joking about moose and the only moose we see are the ones on the signs warning us about the moose!!  Well all that changed in Cape Breton.  We were climbing and climbing and climbing the Cabot Trail through fog and when we got to the top, the fog cleared.  As I was looking through some trees, I saw two moose in a clearing eating.  I could not believe my luck and while I was trying to convince Walter to turn around to have a look, we both saw another one!!  Unvbelievable - 3 moose at once - so cool.   The Cabot Trail is absolutely stunning.  Really, unless you have seen it for yourself you cannot begin to comprehend how amazing it is because I cannot begin to do any justice for it with any sort of explaination.  Suffice to say, everyone should see the Cabot Trail - we would like to come back and drive it in the opposite direction.  A couple of times I looked over my shoulder to see what people were looking at and it was just as breath taking.  And I would like to see it in the winter.  Then we headed for the ferry to go from North Sydney to The Rock!!  I will post lots of photos of Newfoundland once we reach the end in another day or so.

July 21 - Amherst to The Cabot Trail, N.S.

This morning started out with some fog - or as the waitress called it - "Maritime Sunshine"!!  It remained cloudy for most of the day which was too bad but at least it was not pouring rain because that can be a huge drag on a bike.  We managed to make it about 25K into the Cabot Trail and will continue the journey around the trail tomorrow.  I am looking forward to the spectacular views then!!

July 20 - Moncton to PEI to Amherst, N.S.

We left Moncton NB today and headed off to PEI.  The Confederation bridge was spectacular, it took 15 minutes to cross it at 80 km an hour.  PEI is beautiful and the ground is really as red as you have seen in pictures.  It would have been easy to spend days exploring the island but the Cabot Trail is calling to us.  Today we covered three provinces; started in NB went to PEI and ended in Nova Scotia.  We travelled to Charlottetown and walked around a little before we headed to Cavendish, the home of L.M. Montgomery of Anne of Green Gables fame.  When we got there Noreen and Gabriele went into the park, the boys did not – not their thing!!  We then went to Cavendish Beach and Walter and I swam in the 16C water.  It felt fantastic and we could have spent days there floating in the ocean. We had an awesome day and we are really looking forward to getting to the Cabot trail tomorrow.  More to come tomorrow.
